Pancake Day
On February 13th people everywhere go wild celebrating Pancake Day, Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras or Carnival before Lent kicks in the next day which this year coincides with Valentine’s Day. For anyone looking to avoid the traditional Valentine’s Day fanfare, Pancake Date at Where The Pancakes Are was a perfect alternative.
This year we are asking “Do you believe in Magic?” and invited Londoners to join us for a for spectacular pancake experience on Pancake Day with our all-time classic pancake dishes, a Pop Pancake Special, performances by world class magicians, and a chance to be served a Lucky Charm Pancake with the opportunity to win great prizes including Pancakes for a year!!!
We introduced a special Pancake Day dish, the prophet of a bright Spring – Pop Pancake (£5) is a dollar pancake stacked with indulgent, joyful and colourful toppings of popcorn, chocolate-covered popping candy, sprinkles and popcorn-cookie-dough coated ice-cream from snackification experts Doughlicious, the London based and internationally renowned company known for their American style 100% gluten-free no-nonsense cookies and cookie dough.
Darryl Rose & colleagues (Members of The Inner Magic Circle, Order of Merlin, The International Brotherhood of Magicians) were on hand from 5pm at Where The Pancakes Are’s restaurants in Fitzrovia, London Bridge, and Battersea to entertain the crowds with their magic and tricks. And there was a plenty of fun and games for all ages throughout the day.
Served with their signature buttermilk or vegan & wheat-free pancakes, the special Pancake Day edition menu featured all-time favourite savoury dishes such as the best-selling American – with crispy streaky bacon, pure maple syrup and fresh blueberries; Pulled Beef Pastrami – with slow cooked beef brisket, cheddar, sauerkraut served with a kale-fennel salad; a veggie packed Boulder with roasted squash, smashed avocado and chickpea-tabbouleh and their new Halal BBQ Pulled Chicken Pancakes. Sweet pancake dishes include options of Poached Pear and Caramel; Black Forest Berries and the Recovery – banana, almond butter topped pancake with crunchy hazelnut-apricot granola.
Guests dining in on Shrove Tuesday had a chance to test their luck, as any pancake served on Pancake Day might have had a “lucky charm”- a chance to win exciting prizes from goody bags and vouchers to the biggest of them all – Pancakes for a year! It was just one more reason to have as many pancakes as possible and be the lucky winner of a year of pancakes.
Founder Patricia says: “The British’s love for pancakes is so palpable on Shrove Tuesday. Ever since our first pancake day pop-up, this day has truly become the most exciting moment in the year for all our team members to share that love. At the heart of what we’re all about is simply bringing people together around the table for some pancakes and conversation. “
Many thanks to everyone who visited us on this great occasion.
