Celebrating Teenagers, Family and more…
Dear Pancake friends and family,
I’m writing you with the sound of crickets and sloshing water in the background & a cup of satisfyingly weak filter coffee to ease into another pretty perfect day in a small fishing village in Croatia. This is the first holiday – since starting my pancake obsession in 2015 – that I am not on high or low pancake alert. It’s a gift and a rare one for any business owner, so I am making the most of it, happily pondering about where to swim next or when to wake up the rest of the family.
There is some reason to babbling about my holiday – it’s on the topic of family. At Where The Pancakes Are we always try to make family time matter. Baby & mums’ friendly provisions. Always welcoming to dogs, big and small. Kids menus, games, books (Where The Wild Things Are!). Taking off the service charge before giving the bill to groups or couples of teenagers. During every stage of my own family growing (up), I’ve learned to be more attuned to the qualms and needs of our guests. The embarrassment of one’s baby crying their lungs out in a public space, toddlers making a god-almighty mess in their high-chair, grumpy parents exasperated by fighting children, proud teenagers studying the menu to have the best and most afforable meal on their weekly allowance. These experiences and the many good and not-so-good reviews we’ve received over time have made us better at our sort of hospitality, and we’re still learning.
Anyways, to get to the point! With my daughter Lea ready to take on her gap year after finishing her A-levels, I’m mesmerised by all teenagers who are (or have been) navigating school year after year, day after day. We should all stop for a moment to praise and celebrate how far they’ve come, whether in their GCSE or A-level year. At Where The Pancakes Are, our nod to that achievement is to give any student who has received their results this August a prosecco, mimosa or Doughlicious churro dessert on the house.
Wishing everyone a wonderful Summer and to those awaiting results in the meantime, wishing you nothing but success in whatever lies next. If you would like to book a table in advance, click here and do bring along your results envelope to redeem the offer.
